TREASURE OR ENEMY - Matthew 12:22-32
What Does it Say? v22-23 Jesus healed a demon possessed man who could neither see or speak. The crowds were amazed and wondered if Jesus could be the Messiah. The Pharisees accused Him of healing by the power of Beelzebul.
What Does it Mean? The Pharisees were jealous of Jesus growing popularity and they tried to discredit Him by accusing Him of driving the demons out with Satan’s power. This was ridiculous because Satan would not be fighting against himself. Have you ever been in a position where all your failures were broadcast. At one point in my life I moved into a house with several guys and a young woman that was beautiful, talented, and loved by all. I didn’t know how to cook and I was a lousy housekeeper. My friend made sure everyone in the house heard about it every time I screwed up. I may have been a threat to her security as the queen. Whatever the reason, it seemed like she discredited me whenever she got the chance. That is what the Pharisees were doing to Jesus. Everything said about me was true, but Jesus was innocent of all charges. The Pharisees were afraid of losing their position of power over the people and hardened their hearts against Jesus. The crowds that listened to Jesus were offered compassion and Jesus healing touch. Jesus invites us into a relationship with Him, to learn from Him and treasure what He teaches as a pathway to life and hope. What is your response to Jesus invitation?
