What Does it Say?   v20-25  Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph of the line of David.  When Joseph found out Mary was pregnant, he did not want to marry her, but he also did not want to embarrass  her.  While he was trying to figure out what to do, an angel told him in a dream that the father of Mary's baby was the Holy Spirit and she had not been unfaithful to him.  He was to marry her and name her child Jesus.  Joseph married Mary but did not sleep with her until the baby was born, then he named her child Jesus.

What Does It Mean?  Imagine what it would have been like to be Joseph.  He was engaged to Mary when he found out she was pregnant and he knew he wasn't the father.  Being pregnant out of wedlock in those days would have been a big deal.  Joseph would have been in his right to have her stoned, but he was trying to protect her.  When the angel told him what to do, he believed and went ahead with the wedding, but he never slept with Mary until after the baby was born.  This would have been a difficult time for both Joseph and Mary (Mary's story found in Luke 1:26-38).  God was faithful to them.  The angel told both of them at different times to name the baby Jesus.  That would have been an encouragement.  God was faithful, he told Joseph what to do and Joseph obeyed.  When you pray asking God for wisdom, you can be confident that he will answer as he promises in James 1:5.
