SHIP WRECK - Matthew 8:23-27
What Does it Say? v24-26 Jesus and the disciples were crossing the lake when suddenly a storm breaks and the disciples were scared. Jesus was sleeping and they woke him up to save them from drowning. Jesus asks why they have so little faith and He calms the storm.
What Does it Mean? This story reminds me of time we were taking our boat around to the west coast for a fishery opening. It had been a beautiful afternoon and I had been out painting on the deck. As we started around the top end of Vancouver Island, we were fully exposed to a strong north wind and it suddenly got very scary. One minute all we could see was the sky, a few seconds later, all we could see was water, coming in through the front windows as our bow was buried by the next wave. I was told to steer while the captain went out to drop the poles; I panicked. I could barely stand up, I was so scared. I begged God to rescue us and he did. The boat didn't go down, Jim didn't get washed overboard, and God gave me courage to do what I needed to do. It is easy to be afraid when we see things happening that are out of our control. God is always in control and we can trust him. What is happening in your life that is out of your control? Ask God to calm your fears and help you to be obedient and leave the results up to Him. Then you can have the peace that transcends all understanding that God promises to give us in Philippians 4:7
