REJECTED IN HIS HOMETOWN - Matthew 13:53-58
What Does it Say? Jesus went to his hometown to teach in the synagogue. The people were amazed with his teaching until they realised who he was, then they were offended. Jesus did few mighty works there because of their unbelief.
What Does it Mean - Imagine how Jesus would have felt. His family and childhood friends treated Him like He was a fake and a liar. Their rejection would have hurt. He knew His purpose was to share the message of God's love with everyone who would listen. He may have felt discouraged, the Bible doesn't say, but it does say that he didn't do many miracles there. Jesus recognised that His time there was not well spent because the people had hardened their hearts against Him. There were other people in other places that were interested in His message. Jesus knew they hearts, we don’t. Our responsibility is to love the people we encounter and share Jesus love with them in a way that builds their trust and invites them into a relationship with Jesus. If their hearts are hard and they are not interested in our friendship, we should back off and just pray for them. Ask God to lead us to people that have soft hearts, and offer our friendship to those people.
