What Does it Say? v 10-12 You are blessed when people put you down and try to make you look bad because you follow Jesus. You may not see the benefit, but God does. You are not alone, prophets and witnesses had the same problem.
What Does it Mean? This passage of scripture is about what our attitudes are supposed to look like or the “be attitudes.” It's hard to think of yourself as being blessed when people criticize you, or tell lies about you when you have done nothing wrong. There is no doubt that it hurts, but pain can lead us to a deeper relationship with God. We need to focus on the benefits of the pain, rather than the pain itself. Through pain, we learn to trust God, to be honest with Him, and to feel loved. Hebrews 12:3 reminds us that Jesus was criticized too and He got through it. Romans 8:11 says you have access to the same power that raised Jesus from the dead to help you get through it. Tell Jesus when you are being treated unfairly and let Him comfort you, encourage you, and help turn your pain into the blessing of a more intimate relationship with God.
