What Does it Say?  v3-8  When Herod heard from the wise men, that a king had been born, he asked the priests what the scriptures said about where the messiah was to be born.  He then tricked the wise men into telling him when they had seen the star.  He pretended that he wanted to worship the king too.  Joseph was told in a dream to get Jesus and Mary out of the country as Herod was trying to kill them.  After Herod died, an angel told Joseph he could return.

What Does it Mean?  King Herod believed the wise men that there was a king born, he knew where to go to find out more information about what the prophets said about the birth of the king, but he had no intention of worshipping the king.  He saw the baby king as a threat and thought he could outsmart the God of the prophets by killing him.  Herod wanted to be the king with no competition; God knew he and the rest of the world needed a savior.  Herod missed out on the blessing he could have received by worshipping the savior as a baby.  We don't know better than God what is good for us.  He made us, he knows what makes us tick, he knows what will give us true lasting joy and peace.  If you ask God to transform your heart, so his desires become your desires, He will do it.  If you continue to live life your way, you will never find what you are looking for.
