FOLLOW JESUS -  Matthew 10:32-42
What Does it Say?  Everyone who acknowledges Jesus on earth will be acknowledged by Him before God in heaven.  If we are not willing to take up your cross and follow Jesus, we are not worthy of Him.  If we cling to what we have, we will lose it; if we give up our life, we will find it.
What Does it Mean?  A true test of our faith comes when opposition arises.  The easiest way to avoid suffering for Jesus is to act as if we don't know Him.  Hebrews 12:14 says we are to live at peace with everyone as much as we are able, but if we are forced to make a choice, we must choose Jesus.  Jesus will not take second place in our lives.  When I decided to follow Jesus, there were lots of areas that needed to change.  Over the next couple of years, there were many changes in my life. I didn't feel I could participate in the lifestyle and friendships I had and do what Jesus wanted me to do, so I gave them up.  1 Corinthians 10:13 was my lifeline verse as I overcame the temptation to smoke pot and other vices with my friends and family.  I made new friends through a club for young moms and a Bible study.  We shared the same values and encouraged each other.  There were times when I was on my own, but that is when my relationship with God became important to me.  He is my closest friend, my counselor, my provider, my Saviour, my Heavenly Father, my Lord and my God. I gave up a lifestyle and God has given me a new one that has been more exciting and challenging than I could have ever imagined.  My life changed drastically when I followed Jesus, but what God gave me in return has been worth far more.  In what relationship is it the most difficult for you to admit to being a follower of Jesus?  Talk to God about it.
