DISCIPLE MAKING - Matthew 9:35-38
What Does it Say? Jesus traveled through the area healing people. He had compassion on the crowds that were confused and helpless. He said to the disciples that the harvest was plentiful, but the workers were few. He told them to pray for more workers.
What Does it Mean? Jesus had compassion; people could feel it and came to him for help. We need to have compassion; people are most open hear about Jesus love for them when they hurt. They won't share their heart unless they feel safe. Jesus enlists our help to reach our friends and family. Jesus was talking to his disciples when he told them to pray for more workers. He was training them to be to be shepherds of the people and He is training us. The only way we can reach our world for Jesus is by leading people to make disciples, who make disciples .... We need to be praying for our pre-christian friends, spending time with them, sharing our faith as God gives opportunity, leading them to Jesus, and then mentoring them to do the same with their friends. God made all of us with different strengths, but we do have similar values and commitments. We can use all that we are and have to build God's kingdom. What pre-christian friends are you praying for? Pray for opportunities to talk to them about spiritual things. Be careful not to judge or criticize when you don't agree, but don't condone either. Learn to share what you believe with your friends. An excellent book to read is "God Space" by Doug Pollock. The harvest is great, choose to be a worker.
